Samsung Galaxy Nexus’s Official UK Release Date Confirmed

Galaxy NexusAndroid fans here in the U.K. are itching to get their hands on the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich handset, and they’ll be pleased to know that there’s not long to wait now until the device hits shelves. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Nexuswill be available to Brits from November 17.

Sound familiar? That’s because it’s the release date Amazon already outed on the Galaxy Nexus page of its U.K. website in late October. It’s always nice, however, to get an official confirmation. Simon Stanford, Samsung’s head of mobile, said in a statement that the company is looking forward to seeing its latest device in U.K. shops:

“The level of interest and anticipation surrounding the release of the Galaxy Nexus has been fantastic.

“We’re delighted to introduce the Galaxy Nexus to the UK and are looking forward to seeing it in the shops on 17th of November.”

And we’re looking forward to it, too. In addition to Android 4.0, the Galaxy Nexus packs a ton of awesome features, such as a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a stunning 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera that offers 1080p HD video recording.

The device will be heading to “a range of retailers,” according to Samsung, including the Carphone Warehouse, O2, Three, and Vodafone. Its U.K. pricing is expected to start at around £45 (approx. $72) per month on contract, or around £549 (approx. $879) if you want to go SIM-free. That’s about £30 (approx. $48) more than the SIM-free Samsung Galaxy S II.
