Today, at the September 12th Apple Event, Phil Schiller announced the new iPhone 5. The iPhone is the “most beautiful product we’ve ever made”.
The iPhone 5 is made entirely out of glass and aluminium and is the lightest and thinnest iPhone ever. It is 18% thinner than the iphone 4s and 20% lighter, weighing only 112 grams. It has a 4-inch retina display, with an aspect ration of 16:9. The resolutions is 1136x640px.
The iPhone 5 also has 5 rows of icons, and all of the Apple apps have been updated to fit the screen. If an app hasn’t been updated, it still runs exactly the same but has a border around it.
The display features widescreen video, and 44% more colour saturation. It is also the most accurate display in the industry. The touch sensors are intergraded right into the display itself.
The device also supports 4G LTE. There is now a single chip for voice and data, and a single radio chip.
Apple have also added faster Wi-Fi connectivity. New Wi-Fi, 2.4ghz and 5ghz on 802.11n.
The new Apple A6 processor is also in the iPhone 5, the chip has 2x faster CPU and Graphics. It is a huge jump in performance, but 22% smaller.
The battery life is also better than the iPhone 4s’, with 8 hours 3G/LTE browsing, and 225 hours on standby.
The iPhone 5’s camera has also been updated. The camera features a 8 megapixel sensor, with a resolution of 3264x2448resolution. it also has backside illumination and a f/2.4 aperture. It is also 22% smaller. It also has a dynamiclow light mode and precision lens alignment. With iOS 6 and iCloud, Apple have introduced a feature called Shared Photo Streams and the ability to take panorama photos. The camera also is capable to take 1080p video, has improved video stabilisation, face detection and you can take photos while recording video.
The FaceTime HD camera can take 720p video, and also has backside illumination as well as face detection. You can also Facetime over cellular (3G and 4G).
The device also has Three microphones and an improved speaker design. There is aslo noise-cancellation.
With the connector, nothing has changed since 2003 but Apple have now introduced the Lightning connector. It is an all-digital, 8-signal design. It has an Adaptive interface, improved durability. The connector is also reversible, so it is easier to use. It is also 80% smaller.
