Twitter is to bring reto-themed photo filters to it’s mobile apps in the coming months. It’s a new stage in the ongoing Twitter and Instagram battle. Instagram recently disabled Twitter Cards integration, rendering Instagram photos from correctly displaying in a Twitter feed.
Then, Twitter disabled Instagram photos from embedding onto the site. “Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries,” Twitter said in a statement.
To make up for the loss of photos showing up in users’ photo galleries, over the weekend, Twitter staff have been tweeting photos with filters on them from Twitters’ own apps.
It has been known that an update to Twitter’s apps has been in the works, even though Twitter haven’t commented on it.
If Twitter does somehow get this feature out to it’s apps before Christmas, as holiday periods are pretty busy for Instagram, it would steal a lot of thunder from the photo-sharing service.
