As an avid book reader, I use Goodreads a lot to track my reading and find other books based on what I read. Today Amazon revealed that it has plans to acquire the popular social network, Goodreads. Neither Amazon or Goodreads released any information about the agreement, so it’s unclear what the selling price was. The social network has over 16 million active members that have created more than 30,000 book clubs.
“Goodreads has helped change how we discover and discuss books and, with Kindle, Amazon has helped expand reading around the world. In addition, both Amazon and Goodreads have helped thousands of authors reach a wider audience and make a better living at their craft. Together we intend to build many new ways to delight readers and authors alike.” – Amazon Vice President of Kindle Content Russ Grandinetti.
It’s easy to assume that Amazon will embed Goodreads into it’s Kindle service so users can easily interact with other members, but only time will tell.
