14_Xperia_Z_UltraPhones used to be classed as ‘huge’ whenever someone had a 4.3-inch Smartphone that filled their pocket and made the iPhone 3G/3Gs look tiny, now we see phones that are 5-inches in size and they’re standard size. Up until now the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has been the daddy of Smartphones with its 5.5-inch Screen, but not for long. Sony have made the announcement today of the 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra. Yes, that’s right, 6.4-inches.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has an enormous 6.4” Full HD TRILUMINOS™ Display, Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor quad-core CPU clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB On-board Storage and LTE connectivity, to name a few.

The camera on the back of this mega-phone is of the 8MP variety, and although this may not stack up to its smaller sister the Xperia Z’s 13MP shooter, this will definitely have some kick to it judging by the software Sony implement for the camera. Carrying on the tradition now from the Xperia Z, the Z Ultra is water resistant and dust-resistant to IP55/IP58 specification, and carries that now iconic ultra-slim design to align it perfectly with other Xperia handsets. The battery clocks in at 3,000 mAh, which for any smartphone would be huge, but with this kind of screen size it should be interesting to see how long the battery will last for. Obviously bare in mind there that you also have the brilliant Stamina and energy-saving features the other Xperia phones have, to aid in maximising your phone’s battery life.

Sony made note that the average consumer who would buy the Xperia Z Ultra wouldn’t want to hold this enormous phone against their face all the time, so they are releasing this nifty SBH52 Bluetooth receiver that clips onto your clothing and lets you receive calls either by holding it against your ear like a regular phone or by plugging in headphones. The receiver has the ability to pair with any device using NFC and Bluetooth, and Sony says it’s also splash proof for outdoor use.

As you would expect at this early time, Sony hasn’t announced any prices yet, or availability of the Xperia Z Ultra, however we expect this mega-phone to be released around Q3 of 2013. For more information on the Xperia Z Ultra, head over to the Press Release on the Sony Mobile website.
